Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12th November 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej / Now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. The first gymnast to score a 10 for an Olympic competition. Bela Karalyi discovered Comaneci at age six. Later, she would become Romania's gymnastics coach. In 1969, she took part in the Romanian Junior Games where she placed 13th. In 1970, she won the title. She took home three golds at her very first contest at a junior Olympic meet in 1972 that was held by communist countries. Between 1973 and 1974, she became the junior champion in all-round competitions. In her very first competition at the senior level, Lyudmila Turkishcheva from Russia took home five gold medals as well as one silver. In 1976, she was the world's first woman who used a double backwards salto in order to take off parallel bars. Carol's professional career started in the entertainment industry in her teens. Her career began by joining her sister Nina Wayne to perform in Ice Capades, a traveling performance. Ice Capades featured performances of skating on ice by actors.
